LegalEase Citations helps you dominate law school by helping you create perfect Bluebook citations – and saving hours doing it. Follow this guide to copy and paste your formatted Bluebook citation into your document.
Microsoft Word
To maintain the proper Bluebook formatting of your citation when copying it into Microsoft Word, copy the citation from LegalEase Citations and paste it into Microsoft Word with the “keep source formatting” option. For more in-depth instruction, follow the following steps:
Step 1
Click and drag your mouse cursor to highlight the citation you want to copy into a document. Copy the selected text. This can be done in several ways. Mac users can press “command ⌘” and “c.” Windows users can press “ctrl” and “c.” Alternatively, most browsers can “copy” under the “edit” section of the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Step 2
In Microsoft Word, with your cursor in the position where you want your citation inserted, click the dropdown arrow next to the paste button in the document toolbar. Select the paste option “Keep Source Formatting.”

Step 3
Success!

Google Docs
While Google Docs is an excellent tool, it has shortcomings that make it not ideal for handling extensively formatted citations. For this reason, we strongly recommend using Microsoft Word instead. However, if you need to insert your citation into a Google Doc, you can copy and paste (with “keep source formatting”) your citation into Microsoft Word first. Then, copy and paste your citation from Microsoft Word into your Google Docs document. This will keep some but not all formatting. For more in-depth instruction, follow the following steps:
Step 1
First, copy and paste your selected citation into Microsoft Word following the three steps in this guide’s “Microsoft Word” section.

Step 2
Highlight and copy the citation you want to copy. Do this by clicking and dragging your mouse cursor over the desired text and copying the text. Copying can be done in several ways. Mac users can press “command ⌘” and c. Windows users can press “ctrl” and c. Alternatively, you can select “copy” under the “edit” section of the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Step 3
In your Google Docs document, with your cursor in the position where you want your citation inserted, press “ctrl” and v (Mac users: “command ⌘” and v) or select “paste” under the edit menu bar item.

Step 4
Success! Make sure to double-check the accuracy of your formatting against your citation in LegalEase Citations. Please note most formatting aspects of your citation should be preserved (like italicized and underlined text), but some will not (like small capitals).
